Day 19 - Draw Near to God

Read James 4:1-10

This passage speaks again to the idea of "What are you chasing after?" What are you pursuing? Is it God or is it the world?

We have an inner battle that we all face each day. It is there because of the sin nature that we have that traces back to Adam and Eve. We fight with others because we want what we want. We don't always put others first. We have selfish desires and those desires are not from God.

We ask God in prayer for things and when we don't get them we get mad at God because He didn't give them to us. Why is He so mean? He's not. This passage tells us that we ask with wrong motives to get what we want not what God wants.

The reality is this . . . if we truly desire to follow Christ with all we are, WE MUST LIVE DIFFERENTLY! As we become different from the world WE WILL BE PERSECUTED. . . we'll be made fun of, looked at differently, picked on . . . and more.

In those times we can get upset and turn our backs on Christ or we can DRAW NEAR TO HIM. If we truly are pursuing the things of God . . .we must pursue Him. This passage tells us that when we do that HE WILL COME NEAR TO US! As we submit our future, our week, our day to Him, He will show us the path to take. . . what to say . . . how to act.

What things have been distracting you from drawing close to God??

What will you do with those things so they are no longer distractions for you?

What plan do you have in place now to draw near to God daily??

Do you have a certain time of the day? A certain place you go?

If not, it may be time to do that. Share with other Jr. Highers by posting a comment . . . and please leave your name as well.

In my life i have been chasing after God. I sometimes get sidetracked but i quickly try to fix my problems or focus and try to follow God. I really admire in the old testament when david was a man after God's own heart. That is who I am striving to become.
Currently I am trying to pusue God. Although it hasn't been easy it has been very rewarding.
Many things can distract me from God. One thing is my spacy mind, (I can easily get sidetracked and start thinking about other things).
To fix that i could go to bed earlier at night, drink coffee in the morning, or really try to focus in on pursuing God.
I have a pretty good plan to get in the word daily right now. Before I go to bed i read a chapter from the new testament and the old testament. Right now I am reading in the books of Romans and Proverbs. In the book of romans I am reading the letters that Paul sent to the churches he helped create. In the book of Proverbs I am reading about how to find Wisdom. I really like Proverbs a lot because it is very deep and meaningful to me because it helps me with my everyday life and helps me avoid temptations.
I usually read the bible laying down on my bed. I am usually not tired and very alert so I do not get sidetracked and I do not fall asleep. I have learned a lot from my time alone with God.
